Located in Toronto's desirable Cricket Club neighbourhood, the Hedon Avenue project represents one of the defining early milestones in the history of Douglas Reid Renovations Inc. It was one of our first large-scale whole home renovations, and it remains a project that reflects many of the principles that continue to guide our company today—thoughtful planning, exceptional craftsmanship, and an unwavering commitment to getting every detail right.

What began as a modest bungalow was completely reimagined into a spacious custom family home through the addition of a full second storey, a two-storey side addition, a two-storey rear addition, and a completely renovated basement. To maximize the home's potential, the basement floor was lowered using a combination of bench footing and underpinning, more than doubling the usable living space while preserving the structural integrity of the original house.

From the beginning, the homeowners made one thing very clear—they were not interested in a cookie-cutter renovation. They envisioned a home defined by simplicity, precision, and enduring quality. Working closely with the homeowners, designer, and structural engineer, Douglas Reid Renovations Inc. transformed that vision into reality through careful planning, collaborative problem-solving, and meticulous execution.

The entire home was taken back to the original wall studs and subfloor, allowing every space to be rebuilt with purpose. Custom kitchen cabinetry anchors the main living area, while oversized sliding slab doors create clean transitions between rooms. Faux-finished feature walls introduce subtle warmth and texture, and the exterior combines carefully crafted Ipe wood detailing with contemporary finishes that complement the home's modern architectural character.

Perhaps the most remarkable feature of this renovation is one that many visitors don't immediately notice. Throughout the home, traditional trim profiles were intentionally replaced with crisp drywall returns, recessed details, and clean shadow lines. Achieving this minimalist aesthetic required extraordinary precision from every trade involved. While the finished product appears effortless, it demanded exceptional attention to detail, patience, and craftsmanship throughout every phase of construction.
